Replacing petroleum-based glues with a plant-based resin made from rapeseed and sunflower — that’s the bold, successful bet made by Evertree. For nearly a decade, this young company has been shaking up the wood panel industry, paving the way for eco-designed furniture that’s more responsible and healthier.

A biosourced resin that has a positive impact on our planet
and on our health: this is the groundbreaking alternative offered by Evertree, an Avril business unit. In 2016, this startup set itself a mission: to play a role in manufacturing more sustainable materials in a world dominated by the petrochemical industry. And, this is how it developed the first-ever plant-based resin, created using oilseed meal made from sunflowers and rapeseed, grown and harvested in France, and produced by Saipol.
For a world that breathes with peace of mind
Thanks to the adhesive properties of vegetable proteins, this biosourced resin replaces petrochemical-based glues used in Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and chipboard. The benefits are twofold: environmental- and health-based. The resin developed by Evertree has an 80% smaller carbon footprint. This resin is also free from formaldehyde, a volatile organic compound listed as carcinogenic by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). And, the result: better-quality indoor air – which is often up to seven times more polluted than outdoor air – and better protection for wood professionals and consumers.
<h2″>Paving the way for new industry
The technology, already included in new-generation panels such as Next, MDF panels and PANTair chipboard panels, has won over French manufacturers committed to ecodesign, as seen in Cuisines Morel’s “Fleurs” kitchen and the “Sérénité” child’s bed from Camif. Evertree, Silver Medal winner in the 2024 French “Grand Prix de la Marque Engagée” (Committed Brand Grand Prix), has made its mark as a credible, virtuous alternative to traditional adhesives. From the field to furniture, a whole sector is now actively involved in combining innovation, health and ecological transition with the aimof Serving the Earth.
3 questions for CARINE MANGEON PASTORI, HEAD OF R&D AT EVERTREE
What Are Evertree’s Research Focus Areas?
R&D is at the heart of our strategy. Since 2016, we’ve filed 26 patent families in the field of adhesives and materials. After launching a bio-based adhesive free from formaldehyde and isocyanates—reducing the use of fossil-based resins in wood panels—our ambition is to develop 100% plant-based solutions that are high-performing, circular, and compatible with all types of substrates.
What Role Does Saipol Play in This Strategy?
Our collaboration with Saipol is central to advancing our research. With their expertise in oilseed processing and transformation, we have access to high-quality meal—an essential base for our bio-based formulations derived from sustainable, French-grown crops. We also partner with Oleon for glycerin sourcing, fostering a cross-sector synergy within the value chain.
Are You Exploring Applications Beyond Wood Panels?
Absolutely. We’re working with committed partners who explore the use of agro-waste—like distillery grains, vine shoots, and hemp straw—to design eco-friendly furniture with our plant-based resin. This transformation of agricultural by-products into agro-materials is fully aligned with a circular economy approach.
